A barge, when empty, travels twice as fast as when it is full. If it travels 20 miles north with a cargo , spends 30 minutes for unloading, and returns to its original port empty . completing the entire trip in 8 hours, what is the speed of the barge when it is empty?

unloading time = 30 minutes
Then total travelled time = 8 hrs - 30 minutes = 7hr. 30min = 15/2 hr
Lets, assume the velocity of loaded barge be x
Now,
Disatance/ velocity of empty barge + distance/ velocity of loaded barge = 15/2 hrs
20/2x + 20/x = 15/2
or, 20 + 40 = 15x
or, x = 4 kmph
Velocity of empty barge = 8 kmph
